Epson Stylus S21 preview

Budget inkjet printers have always had one fatal flaw that’s the cost of the printer ink cartridges. The main problem being their expensive price tag, and the thing amount that they print, and this is the case also for Epson S21 ink cartridges. Consisting of four individual printer cartridges, one for each colour ink, they contain DURABrite Ultra ink, which apparently help protect the prints from general tear and tear the minute they leave the printer. Unfortunately DURABrite doesn’t help the ink last any longer or make it any cheaper to buy in fact it makes it more expensive because Epson say that thy spend millions every year in research and development of these types of ink technologies and that’s why the inks are so expensive. To be honest they should have spend the money developing better budget printers because the S21 is a very poor performer, mainly down to the speed in which it prints. Print quality is ok but the speed it which is produces documents is painful. Epson claim 25 pages per minute but in the real world it more like 2 pages per minute and you may as well not bother with photo printing as there isn’t enough hours in the day. A small 10×15 photo print takes a jaw dropping five minutes and that’s just for one single photo, if you printing 10 photos it will take almost an hour! The S21 is an entry level printer so you can’t expect too much but you can expect a reasonable level of performance and the S21 just doesn’t come through.
